Moonsighting information for Eid-ul-Fitr, 2009

The following information (given for Port-of-Spain, Trinidad) will be useful to members of the Muslim community who wish to look for the new moon crescent that marks the end of the month of Ramadaan. Information is given below for the position of the moon in degrees– a useful guideline is that a closed fist at arm’s length spans approximately 10 degrees against the sky. Information is also given for the ‘best time’ to view the moon. This is because at sunset there is still too much light in the sky to view a thin crescent, and some time is needed for the sky to darken a little.
